LMTOOLS Crashes When Displaying System Settings
18.14. LMTOOLS Crashes When Displaying System Settings
Applies to: All Palisade products 4.x and 5.x licensed with FLEXlm or FLEXnet
I start the FLEX administrative tools (LMTools). Most functions work fine, but when I click on the "System Settings" tab the program crashes.
We have seen this problem when Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is turned ON on a PC with Execute Disable Bit (EDP) technology. LMTools crashes when attempting to look for a dongle ID from the "System Settings" tab.
To avoid this problem, exclude LMTools from the list of applications supporting this option. Follow this procedure:
- Open Control Panel » System. (Alternative procedure: right-click on My Computer and select Properties.)
- On the Advanced tab, in the Performance section, click Settings.
- Select the Data Execution Prevention tab.
- Select "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select".
- Click the "Add..." button, and in the window that opens navigate to LMTools.exe. (By default, it's in a subfolder under C:\Program Files\FLEXnet\Palisade or C:\Program Files (x86)\FLEXnet\Palisade. Your serial number is the name of the subfolder.) Click Open.
- Click OK to close the Performance Settings dialog, and OK to close the System Settings dialog.
